Together with the Haverut Organization, Students at Bezalel Acdemy Help Hadassah Patients Heal
The opening event for the annual art exhibition of works by Hadassah University Mt. Scopus patients and students of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design will take place Sunday, May 21st at 5:00 pm in the main lobby of Hadassah Mt. Scopus. This year’s works are centered on the theme “Creativity and Health”. Additionally, there will be a number of workshops at this event which will be open to the general public.
The opening event will feature a presentation of the patients’ artworks, a musical performance by the "Kapayim" ensemble. At the end of the event there will be a closing speech.
For the past eight years, Hadassah University Hospital Mt. Scopus and Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design have run a special program for Hadassah patients which is organized by “Haverut”. Haverut is a non-profit organization established in memory of Ruth Ettun who passed away from cystic fibrosis at age eleven. The organization was founded by her mother, Rachel Ettun in 2007. The organization is based on the integrative therapy approach which enhances the world of medicine by strengthening the connection between the spiritual, creative world and the community.
The art program run by Haverut brings together students from Bezalel and patients at Hadassah to create works of art. Through this interaction, the students become a part of the patients’ healing process.
Together with rehabilitative therapy, art is a powerful medium that can substantially assist with the healing process. “Haverut” provides a special environment for this program, adding creative and colorful components to the therapeutic area. The final exhibit is the most exciting aspect of this program, displaying the patients’ completed artworks together with those of the Bezalel students. This exhibit represents the healing process the patients have undergone.
The art exhibit will be displayed in the main lobby of Hadassah Mt. Scopus for several months. The opening event is open to the general public. It is free and there is no need to register in advance.
